Brooks is located 168 kilometres (104 miles) east of Calgary and 100 kilometres (62 miles) west of Medicine Hat on the Trans-Canada Highway. The provincial parks in the area include Kinbrook Island Provincial Park to the south, Dinosaur Provincial Park, a world heritage site, to the northeast, and Tillebrook Provincial Park to the east. See the log cabin, schoolhouse, and a church at the Brooks and District Museum, located .4 km (.2 miles) west of the Trans-Canada Highway. There are exhibits about early ranchers, homesteaders, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and railroading.
